Man Arrested in Cleveland Hit-and-Run Death of 7-Year-Old

Posted on September 4, 2024

September 4, Willoughby, Ohio — Donald Mynatt, a 32-year-old man, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals on Wednesday morning in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident in Cleveland that resulted in the death of 7-year-old Amir Prewitt.

Mynatt was arrested at his residence on East 355th Street in Willoughby. The arrest follows a hit-and-run that occurred on the evening of August 16, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m. Amir Prewitt was riding his skateboard in a parking lot driveway on Lakeshore Boulevard when he was struck by a large SUV with tinted windows. The vehicle did not stop and fled the scene.

Amir was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. An arrest warrant for Mynatt was issued last week on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving a child fatality.

In the wake of the incident, a vigil was held to honor Amir. His mother expressed her gratitude for the community’s support but also voiced frustration over the lack of information about the perpetrator.

Court records reveal that Mynatt has a significant criminal record, including theft and domestic violence, dating back to 2010. He was a fugitive due to a pending arrest warrant for failing to appear in court for a previous domestic violence charge.

The investigation into Amir’s death is ongoing, and the authorities continue to seek justice for the young victim.
